【Humans of Taipei】佔中不是高中喔……

“I was an anthropology major in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. My undergraduate thesis was about Sai Yeung Choi Street, where there isn’t one unified authority in the community and so too many street vendors and telecom stored emerged and finally took up the whole street. It was then I decided to study public administration in MA program, and now I am in NCCU.

“The people in Hong Kong and Taiwan are very different. Taiwanese like to say “hai hao” (the meaning is close to ‘ok’, or ‘so-so’) but I always don’t understand it’s good or bad. Probably it’s because Taiwanese are more polite and tend to express feelings indirectly. Or, maybe it’s just because Hongkongers are more straightforward. Hongkongers emphasize effectiveness.

“Being alone in Taiwan, I sometimes get homesick. I memorize of going home after working overtime. In the subway carriage there were no tourists, only local people who were just like me, getting off works. Now I works part-time in a cafe in Taiwan. My boss said Hongkoners are tough. But I think we just grin and bear it.

“But there is something that Hongkongers need to fight for, like general election. The Chief Executive and half of the congressmen are not elected by the people. They represent only the rich and they made policies for their interest. The gap between rich and poor is becoming wider. Smaller, old shops are closing and the hospitality and human kindness are fading away in our society.

Freedom of expression is also under threat in Hong Kong. A few months ago, Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao former editor was stabbed. I went to Hong Kong Economic Trade and Cultural Office in Taipei and protest there. After that incident, I also create a ’Insight of Hong Kong’ Facebook page. Recently I wear this T-shirt everywhere I go. It says ‘Occupy Central with love and peace’. If asked, I’d tell people what it is about. It is interesting many Taiwanese misread them and thought it means ‘HoPing High school’.”

「我在香港中大本來是念人類學的，因為研究旺角西洋菜街，發現當地缺乏整體規劃，湧入了很多攤販，還有很多通訊行…。於是我研究所改念公共行政，目前在政大念書。
「我覺得港台最大的差異是人。台灣人喜歡說『還好』，我一直搞不懂到底是好還是不好。可能是台灣人比較溫和有禮貌，或是香港人比較直接啦！香港人很重視效率。
「隻身在台灣，有時也很想家。我會想起之前在學校加班，回家的地鐵有一段路，都是剛下班的香港人、沒有觀光客，大家都在各自的工作崗位打拼…。我在台灣的咖啡店打工，老闆說香港人都很tough，我倒覺得香港人是逆來順受吧！
「但有些東西，香港人必須自己去爭取，像是普選。香港的特首和半數議員，都不是香港人選出來的；特首和議員都代表富人階級，政策自然偏向富人，結果就是貧富差距越來越大，傳統小店和人情味都逐漸消失。
「香港人的言論自由也遭到箝制。前幾個月明報總編被刺，我去台北的港澳辦抗議，還成立了 看見香港的臉書專頁；最近為了聲援普選，我走到哪都穿著這件『和平佔中』的T-shirt，若有人問起，我就會向他們說明。比較好玩的是，不少台灣人都以為，上面是寫『和平高中』……」 — 在四四南村。
